Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms L. Barton

This course is designed for students who achieve best in internally assessed achievement standards. It is expected that students taking 12SCA are not taking any other level 2 science course, as there is overlap with standards in other courses.

You will learn to:
• test water to identify whether it is safe to drink
• investigate the mechanisms for survival in extremely cold, hot or arid environments
• be able to critique media from a biological perspective
• identify the processes that have created the local Auckland landscape
• identify the processes that have created the local Auckland landscape
• use microscopes to investigate plant and animal cells
• carry out practical work, make observations, take and record measurements and evaluate techniques and processes


Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Education Perfect (recommended) $20. Field trip costing approximately $15.

Recommended Prior Learning

Students must have completed a course in level 1 Science (11SCI, 11SCA) Students MAY NOT DO both 12SCA and any of 12CHE, 12BIO, 12PHY OR 12ESS as there is significant overlap of standards with these courses.
