- research like an historian by focusing on Civil Rights in the USA from Rosa Parks to Black Lives Matter
- analyse different perspectives through exploring Māori activism and the occupation of Takaparawhā Bastion Point
- think critically by interpreting different stories, focusing on the 1981 Springbok Tour
- explore different aspects of World War Two
