Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs E. McKellar

Blast from the Past: Study, prepare and present a social or cultural dance. Students will perform a group dance and do a presentation on their chosen style of dance.

Elements: Use the elements and conventions of dance to create a dance sequence related to the elements of the world. Students will choreograph their own movement through a range of tasks and have the freedom to create their own concept for a group dance resulting in a choreographed group dance for performance.

You will learn to:
• Develop personal movement vocabularies and performance skills
• Respond to dance and develop choreography skills by exploring the elements and choreographic devices of dance
• Research, explore and describe dances from a variety of cultures and social backgrounds
• Students will be able to understand the background of how different social and cultural dances came about and how different eras or social contexts have an influence on each style
