Commerce is your gateway into the world of Accounting, Business and Economics. You will learn about concepts, tools, and models which are used in the real world by businesses and organisations to help them make informed decisions. You will get a chance to use some of this knowledge through running your market day business, of which is done in groups.
Term 1
Business Basics - What qualities must an entrepreneur have to be successful and how can we be innovative? These questions will be answered as part of the Business Basics unit as well as an introduction to demand/supply and how financial transactions are processed.
Term 2
Market Day - This is your chance to work in a group, be innovative/creative, and have a positive social, cultural or environmental impact by running a market day business. You will also complete an internal assessment using your business and the context.
Term 3
Not just numbers - Accounting is more than just numbers! You will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of accounting which includes classifying and interpreting financial information which helps businesses and stakeholders make informed decisions.
Term 4
The New Zealand economy - Building on the Business Basics, you will gain an understanding and appreciation of how the New Zealand economy works and how we interact with the international market.
