Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Completion of level 1 Art recommended. 



You will learn to:

  • Research and investigate wide cultural and societal contexts and their impact on society to apply critical thinking and idea development.
  • Confidently use a DSLR camera and related photographic equipment
  • Extend and apply appropriate art-making processes, procedures, materials, and techniques within a photographic context.
  • Develop a sound control of Adobe Creative Cloud applications for a re-generation of ideas and refinement for presentation
  • Work independently with teacher guidance to produce a systematic body of work in response to their own proposal, thereby gaining the practical experience of engaging in project-based learning.
  • Students will complete  two workbook assessments for the two internals and 2 x A1 folio board for the external submission.



Course Overview

Term 1
First internal AS 91312 - learning about digital software Photoshop and LightRoom and how to use a digital DSLR camera as well as studying the specific pictorial elements of Photography

Term 2
Second internal AS 91317 - learning about how to work within a theme and to develop, sequence and extend photographic ideas. Start work on the folio - 2 x A1 boards of photographic work - external.

Term 3
Completion of 2 x A1 folio boards by the end of the term.

Term 4
Refinement of photographic images and sequencing and printing of folio board - Week 1 - 3

Assessment Information

AS 91312- 2.2 Use drawing methods to apply knowledge of conventions appropriate to photography - internal - 4 credits
AS 91315 - 2.3 Develop ideas in a related series appropriate to established photography practice - internal - 4 credits
AS 91320 - Produce a systematic body of work that shows understanding of art-making conventions and ideas within photography - external - 12 credits

Could lead to any career in the Creative Arts that may include painting, design, photograph, media, advertising, curatorial studies.
