Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Completion of Level 2 Design recommended. 


You will learn to:

  • Research in-depth and investigate a broad range of materials, techniques, and established practices to extend and refine skills in the design process.
  • Generate, develop, re-generate, and clarify ideas using a combination of handmade and digital approaches appropriate to drawing conventions in design.
  • Develop a sound control of Adobe Creative Cloud applications for re-generation of ideas, and refinement for presentation.
  • Work independently with teacher guidance to produce a systematic body of work in response to their own proposal, thereby gaining the practical experience of engaging in project-based learning.
  • Students will complete two workbook assessments for the two internals and a  3x A1 folio board for external submission.

Course Overview

Term 1
Learning about the pictorial elements of design and design briefs
Familiarisation with design software - Photoshop, In Design, Illustration
AS 3.2 - Understanding pictorial elements in design - - 4 credits

Term 2
Developing techniques and skills to create series of ideas for specific design briefs
AS 3.3 - Produce a series of design ideas that develops and clarifies - 4 credits
Developing a folio brief and beginning a 3 x A1 board portfolio of design briefs - 3.4

Term 3
Continuation with 3 x A1 boards of design briefs - 3.4

Term 4
Refining, printing, presentation and submission of folio - 3.4 - 14 credits

AS 91445 - Use drawing to demonstrate understanding of conventions appropriate to design - 4 credits - internal
AS 91450 - Systematically claridy ideas using drawing informed by established design practice - 4 credits - internal
