Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Completion of 12 VRT recommended. 




You will learn to:

  • Develop and extend ideas, in a systematic way, through painting and drawing media.
  • Apply the processes and techniques of painting.
  • Explore your own ideas and theme in original artwork.
  • Research artists and understand their work and ideas.
  • Work independently with teacher guidance to produce a systematic body of work in response to their own proposal, thereby gaining the practical experience of engaging in project-based learning.
  • Students will complete two workbook submissions for the two internals  and a 3 x A1 folio board for the external submission.

Course Overview

Term 1
Learning about the pictorial elements of painting
Familiarisation with painting skills and techniques and use of artist models
AS 3.2 - Understanding pictorial elements in painting- - 4 credits

Term 2
Developing techniques and skills to create series of ideas in painting using artist models for inspiration
AS 3.3 - Produce a series of painting ideas that develops and clarifies - 4 credits
Developing a folio brief and beginning a 3 x A1 board portfolio of painting ideas - 3.4

Term 3
Continuation with 3 x A1 boards of painting ideas- 3.4

Term 4
Refining, finishing, presentation and submission of folio - 3.4
