Course Description

13PHA is offered as an alternative pathway to support students studying Physics, the course has one more internally assessed Achievement Standard and one less externally assessed Achievement Standard compared to the 13PHY course. The course is ideally suited to students intending to study Diplomas in Engineering and Engineering Technology courses at the tertiary level.

You will learn to:
carry out a guided practical investigation where you plan, take measurements, process data and analyse the results
research and report upon a physics application in a given context
demonstrate understanding of modern physics
identify, describe and explain physics concepts and principles
solve problems which can be straightforward or complex

This course offers an alternative pathway for students wishing to study level 3 Physics standards, but have not met the prerequisites from the 12PHY course. The course differs from 13PHY by offering AS91525 - Demonstrate understanding of modern physics, and withdrawing AS91526 - Demonstrate understanding of electrical systems. The course has been tailored to suit students wishing to enter trade professions, apprenticeships, engineering diploma courses or engineering technology courses at AUT, MIT and Unitec.

Course book approximately $25. EOTC trip to Rainbow's End approximately $45 and Education Perfect (recommended) $20.


Recommended Prior Learning Students must have achieved in at least two Level 2 Physics Achievement Standards.
