Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

You will learn to:

• Study European 19th Century art including the Realists, Impressionists and Post Impressionists

•read visual narratives and meaning from art works

  • learn how to analyse and discuss artworks

•understand how artists transmit ideas through imagery

  • gain knowledge about how life at that time impacted on art

Introduction to C18th and C19th art movements
How to analyse and discuss an artwork
Neoclassical and Romantic art
Field trip to the Auckland Botanical Gardens and completion of AS 2.7- Art in the Physical Environment.

Term 2
Realist and Impressionist art
Completion of AS 2.5 - Research an art history topic

Term 3
Post - Impressionist art
Completion of AS 2.4 - The effects of media in art
NZ Colonial Landscape Art

Term 4
Depiction of the Maori by the European artist
